Pavement Ant (Sand Ant)
These ants can become very invasive, especially when a colony has settled in your building. Leave it to us to eliminate them.
Pavement ants are light brown to black in colour with paler legs than the rest of the body. They are about 2.5 to 3 mm long, with parallel lines on the head and chest.
They are usually found under stones, concrete slabs, on sidewalk edges and in cracks or crevices in wood or stone houses.
Pharaoh Ant
Have you spotted any Pharaoh Ants? Quickly exterminate them before they build a nest in your home.
This translucent ant species has a dark abdomen and varies in colour from light brown to yellow. The typical worker ant measures between 1.5 and 2 millimetres, while the queen is much taller at about 4 mm.
Pharaoh Ants are unique because they do not really build an ant farm. This renders traditional ant control methods ineffective and can even aggravate the infestation.
Spiders
If you are terrified of spiders, let us get rid of them with pest control measures and even prevent them from appearing.
Many spider species are found in Montreal and on the South Shore. Spiders are arachnids that can be easily distinguished from other insects because they have eight legs and no wings or antennas.
Some species prefer wetlands, while others prefer warm places. They also prefer dark and sparsely populated areas to construct their web.
Cockroaches
Say goodbye to cockroach infestations... Forever!
Adult cockroaches have a flat body, are generally between 1 and 5 centimetres long and have a colour ranging from black to reddish brown, depending on the species. Most of those in Quebec have wings but are unable to fly long distances.
Cockroach infestations can occur in several areas of your home. This includes kitchens and bathrooms, drains and garbage bins. In other words, cockroaches infest areas where bacteria can be found.
Woodlouse
Do you have a problem with woodlice? Now is the time to get rid of them for good!
Woodlice are small greyish, blackish or brownish insects about 15 mm in size. Their bodies are flat and comprise several patches.
Because they need a very humid environment, they are often found in basements and bathrooms. They do not cause any damage inside, although the owners of the house are generally not very pleased with their presence.
Silverfish
Silverfish reproduce extremely quickly. We can offer you pest control solutions and prevent you from becoming a victim of infestation.
These insects are resistant, can live without food for several months and are covered with grey scales. Measuring between 9 and 13 mm, they can easily be identified by their 3 hairy strands located at the end of the abdomen.
Originating from the tropics, silverfish survive the Quebec climate by settling in hot and humid areas of some buildings.
Earwigs
Despite its name, this insect doesn't dig into your ears to lay its eggs. However, it can be invasive. We're here to get rid of it.
The earwig is easy to identify because of the prominent claws at the end of their abdomen. It is about 1.5 to 2 cm long and dark brown with a reddish head and pale yellow-brown legs.
Earwigs tend to prefer dark and humid places and like to feed at night. They are therefore usually found in narrow cracks in foundations, under floors and in other confined areas of the home.
Flies
Flies can be a nuisance when they buzz around the house, especially if there are many of them. Don't let them bother you any longer.
There are many different fly species and they live in a wide variety of habitats. Flies enter houses through holes in screens, cracks and even drains. Once inside, they reproduce quickly.
The main problem with flies is that they can carry contaminants with their legs and contaminate your food by landing on it.
Moths
Protect the contents of your cupboards! Moth larvae damage animal products such as wool, fur, silk and feathers.
Moth larvae are whitish in colour with a brown head. The butterfly is about 15 mm long when mature and can also be identified by its white colour.
Moths tend to stay close to food sources. Most adult butterflies feed on nectar and sap, while larvae feed on food and even tissue.
Indian moth
The Indian moth is a real pest when it attacks a pantry. Make sure you keep them away from yours!
The larvae of the Indian moth are pale white, sometimes with shades of pink or green depending on their diet. As an adult, this insect, which is about 12 mm long, has two-tone wings in shades of brown and red.
This species generally settles in heated areas where it can find food. It feeds mainly on grain products but will readily infest anything in a pantry.
Sometimes prevention is the best method of extermination!
At Avalanche Extermination, we offer a preventive spraying service outside the house to prevent the intrusion of these unwanted insects.
